Original Photos Coronation of Pope Pius XII
2 March 1939
Original photographs in excellent condition, with stamp on the back by the photographer of the time Spartaco Appetiti.
On March 2, 1939, Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli was elected Pope on his 63rd birthday.
He chooses the name of Pius XII, to underline the continuity of intent and work with his predecessor, Pius XI, Pope Ambrogio Ratti.
The pontificate of Pius XII was among the most controversial in the history of the Church due to his elusive attitude towards the drama of the Holocaust and the absence of his initiative aimed at preventing the deportations of Jews to concentration camps.
