First published in 1691 “it was the standard work for architects… This book included a life of Vignola, a description of his and Michelangelo's buildings, and a dictionary of architectural terms. Daviler also gave practical advice on the design and construction of buildings. It should be underlined that these are works that survived the fire in the library of the Abbey of Saint Germain des Pres, which occurred in 1794.
