The Dicerie sacre were first published in Turin in 1614. They are dedicated to Pope Paul V and contain three prose works, which bear the following titles: 1) Painting. First rumor about the Holy Shroud. 2) Music. Rumors about the seven words spoken by Christ on the cross. 3) Heaven. Third rumor. A work of highly original conception, which blends sacred oratory, which appears in the title and is supported by a long series of scriptural citations, with artistic treatises (painting, music), astronomy, erudition and poetry. In the Dicerie, Marino creates a kaleidoscopic, iridescent, labyrinthine prose, rich in allegories, symmetries, syntactic variations and lexical refinements. A surprising example of prose between Mannerist and Baroque.
